Department of Zoology
The Department of Zoology was established in 1964 when first year medical students were started to accept for admission from qualified fresh matriculates. The Department was then organized with four teaching staff – one Head of the Department, one Assistant Lecturer and two Demonstrators, and with two laboratory staff. In 1992, the organization of the Department was promoted to seven teaching staffs with one Lecturer and Head of the Department, two Assistant Lecturers and two Demonstrators. Then in 2003, the organization of the Department was promoted to thirty three teaching staffs with one Lecturer and Head of the Department, three lecturers, ten Assistant Lecturers and twenty Demonstrators according to the new set up.

Staff development programme
1. Training junior staff within the department:
(a) Teaching learning strategies
(b) Microscopic study on histology slides
(c) Maintenance of microscopes
(d) Stock taking, registration, and maintaining the overall departmental facilities
(e) Responsibility for office works and security.
2. Computer and electronic Teaching/Learning media training.
3. Participating in the workshops held by the Medical Education Unit of the University of Medicine, Mandalay
